2001 STATE CHAMPIONS
*** 15 WSC Titles ***
Best WSC record since 1981 (298-95 .758)
Santa Barbara City College women's tennis has a strong reputation for excellence in
and out of the classroom. The Vaqueros have been honored for having the highest GPA
in the state for women's tennis. In 2000, the ladies fought their way to the state
final and in 2001, they brought home the first women's tennis State Championship in
school history. Since 1981, the Vaqueros have captured 15 Western State Conference
titles -- the most by any SBCC intercollegiate team.
The Vaqueros finished second in the WSC for three straight years (2010-12), compiling
an overall record of 33-10 and making the team playoffs each year. In 2012, Sophie
Angner reached the state semifinals in singles and finished second in the state doubles
with Talia Hudson.
SBCC always produces strong, competitive teams which focus on the overall effort of
the student-athlete as opposed to the outcome. Student-athletes are challenged, in
a positive and supportive environment, to strive for their individual and team goals
while developing a strong character.
