Vaqueros reach second round of playoffs
Domenichelli sets new record with 25 goals
SBCC had another outstanding start to its women’s soccer season, going 10-1-1 in the first 12 games and eventually taking
second in the WSC North with a 9-2-1 record.
But the Vaqueros, 16-4-2 overall, couldn’t figure out a way to beat Ventura. The WSC champion Pirates won both regular-season
meetings by 2-0 scores and then eliminated SBCC in the second round of the Southern Cal Regional, 3-0.
The 16 wins tied the 2007 squad for the second most in school history.
The Vaqueros whipped WSC rival Moorpark 7-1 in the first round of the playoffs behind a four-goal performance from freshman
Jessica Domenichelli.
“We were nationally ranked and this is the farthest the girls have ever advanced,” said coach John Sisterson. “It was a good
season and we have a lot of talent coming back next year.”
The Vaqueros were 8-1-1 at home this season and Sisterson is 74-28-27 in six seasons as head coach.
SBCC was No. 7 in the final state power rankings and had the fourth-best offense. The Vaqueros outscored their opponents
86-20 and set a school record in a 19-0 win over Hancock.
Domenichelli, a freshman from El Dorado Hills who scored four goals in her first collegiate game against Sequoias, finished
with a school-record 25 goals and eight assists.
She was joined on the All-WSC first team by freshmen Sara Tomas, Amanda Tafoya and Morgan Crumpley.
