Bullemer leads veteran squad
After an outstanding freshman campaign, Nicole Bullemer hopes to guide SBCC back to the top of the WSC women’s golf standings.
The sophomore from Dos Pueblos High won a pair of WSC meets last year and finished eighth in Southern California and 10th
in the State. Four of the top six players are back from the 2010 squad that finished third in the WSC with a 19-17 record.
Bullemer was an All-WSC choice and Emily Wisma qualified for last year’s Southern Cal Regional. The other returners are Lise
Andersen (San Marcos High) and Kurumi Ando.
“Nicole is an excellent player with a year of college experience,” said 12th-year Vaquero coach Chuck Melendez. “I see great
gains in all four sophomores, in terms of maturity and experience. They’re more confident and they’re all solid academically.”
SBCC will face a talented field in the South Coast Classic on Sunday and Monday in Ventura. Most of the top teams in the
state, including defending state champ Irvine Valley, will play in the 36-hole event. Monday’s final round will also feature
the first WSC match.
The Vaqueros have won four of the last seven conference titles. From 2006-08, they went 134-6 and captured state titles in
2006 and ‘08.
Three freshman have joined the team -- Kristin Discipulo of Redondo Beach, Haley True of Santa Barbara High and Kendall DeKreek
of Woodland, Calif.
“Discipulo and True are very impressive,” Melendez said. “They played in a lot of tournaments over the summer and a lot of
AJGA (American Junior Golf Assoc.) events.
“We’ll definitely be better than last year. We have a lot of ability but we also have a long way to go. We need to keep learning
the game and learning how to score.”
