Head Coach Scott Fickerson
Coach Fickerson is in his sixth season at the helm of the Vaqueros Track & Field and Cross Country programs. He was previously head coach at NCAA D3 Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks from 2001-08.
Fickerson has his Masters in Human Performance from University of Wisconsin La Crosse and did his undergrad in Exercise Science at UC Davis. Fickerson competed in Cross Country and Track & Field for the Aggies after two seasons at Ventura College.
Born and raised in Ventura, Fickerson now resides in Santa Barbara. When not coaching, he can be found outdoors kite boarding, surfing, running, hiking, etc.
Asst. Coach Jaret Campisi
Campisi joined the Vaquero Track & Field program in 2012. He'll coach the hurdles and horizontal jumps.
Campisi graduated from Penn State with a degree in Geography/Graphic Information Systems. An accomplished hurdler, Campisi was a Big 10 Champion, NCAA All-American and Olympic Trials semi-finalist in the 400m Hurdles.
After growing up in Pennsylvania, he now resides in Santa Barbara where he makes digital maps for an environmental consulting firm. He still enjoys running and staying active in his free time and is also an accomplished singer/songwriter.
Asst. Coach Stephen Scrafford
Scrafford returns to SBCC after a successful athletic career as a Vaquero. The WSC Track Athlete of The Year in 2010, Scrafford will be a volunteer assistant coach working with the cross country team and the distance runners during the track season.
He was a member of the NCAA D3 National Championship SUNY Cortland Cross Country team. Scrafford who hails from Cooperstown, N.Y., will be completing his philosophy degree at UCSB while coaching the Vaqueros.
Asst. Coach Ryan Rupcich
Ryan joins the Vaquero staff via UCSB and DePaul University to head up the sprints/relays position as well as the pole vault. A pole vaulter for Fresno State, Rupcich then headed to DePaul where he earned his Masters Degree in Educational Leadership to go with his Bachelors in Kinesiology.
Rupcich has worked on several successful coaching staffs as both sprint and jumps coach. He was the pole vault coach at UCSB and jumps/hurdles coach at DePaul. Originally from Fresno, Rupcich, a United States Marine, is now a resident of Santa Barbara.
Asst. Coach Claire Morgan
Claire will lead the throwers on the Vaqueros Track & Field staff.
After a successful career as a three-sport star at Ventura High, Morgan competed for Cal State Northridge on full scholarship and earned a degree in Child and Adolescent Development. Coming from a family of throwers, athletics is in her blood and she has been very active in multiple sports her entire life.
Morgan is working in Santa Barbara as a Behavioral Therapist working with autistic children. She recently competed in several international competitions for American Samoa.
Asst. Coach Sharon Kovar
Most recently, she served as head coach of the Girls Cross Country team and Boys and Girls Mid/Distance Track teams at Monte Vista High school in Danville, Calif., for the past 4 years. She also coached Track at the American School of Kuwait in the Middle East for the Mid/Distance teams, taking 30 participants to compete in the Championship Meet in Cairo, Egypt in 2005.
In addition to coaching, she has participated in, and won many ultra-marathons around the world. Specifically, first woman in the Dead Sea 50K in Jordan, 100km del Sahara in Tunisia, Senegal Marathon, Stormy 100 mile in BC, and 2-time winner of the Death Valley 30K Trail Race. In addition to her love for trail/extreme running, she has competed in numerous marathons including Boston, New York, Chicago, San Diego, CIM, Rome, Berlin, Traviso, Medoc, and Venice.
