Santa Barbara City College offers a broad variety of technology courses,
skills competency awards, certificates and AA/AS degrees housed in various
departments throughout the college. Depending on your interest or goal,
you may find this a helpful way to uncover your options.
Computer Applications & Office Management (COMP)
This program offers courses in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), as well as, social networking for business, informational graphics, Google world and even keyboarding. Courses in office management and business communications, are also offered.
Computer Information Systems (CIS)
This department offers students preparation for entry level positions in computer programming, systems analysis, computer operations, network management, information systems management, sales and technical information. You can also take one of the specialized courses that prepare you for the certification exam like the new CompTIA Cloud+ or the Citrix Certified Associate Exam. Students obtain a discount on their certification exams.
Computer Network Engineering (CNEE)
Students take CNEE courses as preparation to work in the area of network support. Graduates work as LAN/WAN specialists, network administrators, internet/intranet administrators, and network designers and engineers. Many major industry certification exams such as A+, Microsoft and Cisco are available.
Computer Science (CS)
This department focuses on teaching students programming, how to decompose problems into algorithms, creating programs using standard data structures as well as object-oriented concepts. Students work on flow control and looping constructs all in preparation for careers in programming. CS students pursue this education for jobs as well as for transfer to both the CSU and UC systems.
Multimedia Arts & Technologies (MAT)
Animation, gaming, media design? This program provides training in state-of-the-art software production processes, theory and concepts. Students learn art, design and technical skills. Preparing them for employment in applied media industries and/or for transfer to media programs at 4 year universities.
