Information Competency Requirement (Area F)

Ways to satisfy SBCC Information Competency, Area F, degree requirement:
Students who have not satisfied the Information Competency (IC), Area F, requirement at SBCC may petition this requirement by submitting a INFORMATION COMPETENCY, AREA F, GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS PETITION based on one of the following grounds: 
  1. Option 1: Substitution by reciprocity:
    • Course is approved at external transfer institution as satisfying Information Competency Graduation Requirement, OFFICIAL Transcript(s) required
  2. Option 2: Collaboration of external coursework satisfies information Competency Requirement 
    • MUST attach DETAILED course syllabus or course of study outline and OFFICIAL Transcript(s) required 
  3. Option 3: completed Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree (Recency required - completed in last 6 years): 
    • Petition Information Competency Requirement based on reason, OFFICIAL Transcript(s) required 

Students requesting to fulfill the Information Competency requirement using   external coursework or degree MUST:

  1. Complete a INFORMATION COMPETENCY, AREA F, GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS PETITION
  2. Submit OFFICIAL college transcripts with successful completion in transfer coursework or transcript with proof of degree 
  3. Attach the course syllabus or the detailed course of study outline that specifically lists the topics covered in the course from the term the course was completed
    • A catalog course description is not sufficient
  4. Using external coursework require grades of C or better 
The Transcript Evaluation Office will only accept Official transcripts from Regionally Accredited Institutions
If you have completed coursework at other institutions, contact all the schools you have attended and request to have your official transcripts sent to SBCC.  There may be a fee.

Official Transcripts may be delivered to SBCC Admissions & Records department in a SEALED envelope from sending institution
