Head Coach Paula Congleton

congleto@sbcc.eduCoach Congleton took over as head coach in 1999. She's been the WSC Gold Division
Coach of the Year three times, including 2011 when the Vaqueros went 31-7 and captured
the WSC title. The Vaquero coaches earned California South Region Staff of the Year
honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
A four-year Scholar-Athlete and three time All-American, Paula played in three College
World Series during her stellar career at the University of New Mexico. Coach Congleton
graduated with honors in both her Bachelor and Master's degree programs from the University
of New Mexico and finished her Ph.D. in Educational Administration with an emphasis
in Leadership. The season outlook is promising, Congleton believes her team is on
track in making another appearance in the Southern Cal Regional Playoffs.
Assistant Coach Bill Hilliard
Bill brings years of experience to the Vaqueros Softball Program. After coaching at Santa Barbara High School, Coach Hilliard came to City College to assist with fundamental skills development and the execution of offensive and defensive strategies. He specializes in working with the outfield and utilizes his knowledge of the game as the Vaqueros' first base coach. Bill also serves as a surrogate dad for the girls while they compete as student-athletes.
Assistant Coach Erin Breck
A former star at SBCC, Erin joined the staff in the fall of 2011. She grew up in Thousand
Oaks and played softball for 16 years. She was first-team All-WSC as a second baseman
in 2008 and was nominated for all-state. In 2009, she received the Vaquero Award for
excellence as a student-athlete. She batted over .400 in both of her Vaquero seasons.
Breck graduated from Tennessee in August of 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Communications.
She majored in Journalism and Electronic Media and focused on TV Sports Journalism.
Her dream is to get become a sideline reporter for ESPN.
"The reason I came back to SBCC is the love I have for the game," said Breck, who
was an assistant coach at Bearden High in Knoxville, Tenn. "Being in Santa Barbara
alone is a dream, but being a part of the coaching staff for the softball team is
fantastic."
