Latin Program

The Latin program offers two introductory courses for the beginner-level student. LATN 101 & 102 are courses based on reading, grammar and syntax of classical Latin. In those courses the students also study the presence of Latin in modern languages, science and culture.

 

Latin Courses

LATN 101 — Beginning Latin I
(5) F, S — CSU, UC
Skills Advisories: Eligibility for ENG 110 or ENG 110H or ENG 110GB.
Beginning course on reading, grammar and syntax of classical Latin. Study of the presence of Latin in modern languages, sciences and culture.

LATN 102 — Beginning Latin II
(5) F, S — CSU, UC
Prerequisites: LATN 101 or two years of high school Latin with a minimum grade of “C” or qualifying score on SBCC SoML placement exam.
Skills Advisories: Eligibility for ENG 110 or ENG 110H or ENG 110GB.
Continuation of LATN 101. Focuses on reading, grammar and syntax of classical Latin. Study of the presence of Latin in modern languages, sciences and culture.
