Rick
Wolfe
Rick
is a first-time Adjunct Instructor at Santa Barbara
City College. Teaching here has special meaning to him
as this is where he got his collegiate start on two
different occasions.
After
graduation from Santa Barbara High in 1972, he attended
SBCC, completing the requirements for an AA degree.
In 1975 he transferred to UCSB as a zoology major. After
two quarters, the demands of a growing family led to
his decision to take a break from school and work full
time. The "break from school" lasted about
23 years!
In
1997, he returned to SBCC, this time as a history major,
finished the lower division requirements for a history
degree and transferred once more to UCSB where he earned
his BA in 2000. For the past two years he has been a
graduate student at UCSB and earned his MA earlier this
year. He plans to continue in the doctoral program with
an emphasis on late nineteenth and early twentieth century
race relations.
During
his "break from school" he worked in the local
grocery business, most of the time as a produce manager
for Vons. He has three grown children, is expecting
his first grandchild in December and he and his fiancee
are planning to be married next July.
He
is very much enjoying teaching at SBCC this semester.
It is challenging but very rewarding and he appreciates
the opportunity to hone his teaching skills. The quality
education he received here made for a smooth transition
to the University level. He hopes, as an Instructor,
he can help others meet their goals as he has been helped
in reaching his.
