Linebacker gets scholarship to Glenville State
SBCC linebacker Manny Hernandez has been named All-State in football, making the
first-team All-Region 6 defensive squad.
The 6-foot, 224-pound sophomore from San Marcos High led the state in tackles for
the second straight year. He was No. 1 in tackle average at 12.9 per game. He missed
two games due to injury and finished with 103 tackles in eight games.
Hernandez was named the Male Athlete of the Year for SBCC and accepted a scholarship
to play at Glenville State in West Virginia.
In 2010, he topped the state with 130 tackles in 10 games. He received first-team
All-American Pacific Conference honors in each of the last two years. As a freshman,
he made the first team at linebacker and punter after leading the conference with
a 39-yard average.
He's also a top student, sharing the team lead among two-year players with a 3.4
GPA.
Hernandez was the APC Defensive Player of the Week three times this year and five
times in the last two seasons. He set a career-high with 19 tackles on Oct. 2, 2010
vs. L.A. Southwest.
"It's a great honor for a great individual," said Vaquero coach Craig Moropoulos.
