Career Classes and Workshops

Taking a Career Class for credit or attending a workshop, or Career Center event can be a great way to help you define your career direction, build job search skills or get school credit.

Classes for Credit

There are several classes you can take for credit in which you will explore career options and learn important career developing skills.

selfpaced PD 191A Career Planning: A Self-Directed Approach, 1 credit. A self-paced, individualized career planning course which includes career assessment, career counseling and independent research.  Course is available either through online assignments or Career Center research. 
careerplanning PD 110 Career Planning and Decision-Making, 3 credits. A comprehensive approach to career and educational planning: values clarification, skills analysis, decision-making, goal setting and job search.
collegesucess PD 100 College Success, 3 credits. In this course students clarify their educational objectives and develop the skills necessary to reach them.  Topics include time management, reading and study skills, goal-setting, career planning and communication skills.
wxp WEXP290 General Work Experience 1, 2 or 3 credits.  These courses are supervised employment, internships or volunteer work intended to assist students in acquiring desirable work habits, attitudes and career awareness.

The SBCC Career Center offers a series of events & workshops each semester for students on a variety of topics.

40+ employers on-campus with jobs and internships for SBCC students.

Choose a Major Week  March 10 – 14
Drop by the Career Center for help choosing a major, before fall registration begins.

Networking + Informational Interviews Wednesday, March 19, 4:00 – 5:30
Develop your personal “sound bite,” learn what an informational interview is and gain confidence in networking, the number one skill for finding a job or internship.

How to I Made It: Social Media and Digital Marketing  Wednesday, April 16, 4:00 – 5:00
Panel of real people in jobs they love and how they got there.

Résumé Doctor Workshop Tuesday, April 29, 2:30 – 4:00
Prescriptions given for a quick fix update or a complete diagnosis for a whole new résumé.

How I Made It: Philanthropy and Non Profits Wednesday, April 30, 4:00 – 5:00
Do you long to work for a cause?  Meet a panel of professionals who have made their living doing it. 

Interview for Success Workshop Thursday, May 1, 3:00 – 4:00
Learn techniques that will prepare you for an interview so you can land that summer job.
